This is a pre-order item that will be available to pick up in-store in the spring. You will receive an email confirmation when you place your order, and another email in the spring when they are ready for pick-up.
Pick-Up Info
You will receive an email when your plants are ready for pick-up in the spring. Simply come to the front desk with your pick-up information, and we will pull your plants from the greenhouse where they have been waiting patiently for you!
Plants must be picked up within 14 days of notification. Orders that are not picked up in that time will be released for re-sale, and you will not receive a refund. If you are unable to pick up your plants during that time, please let us know ASAP.
Baptisia, or False Indigo, is a large, spring-flowering perennial with towering flower spikes that bring all the attention.
The large, round shape and height of a Baptisia make it perfect for the middle or back of a landscape bed, but they won't be missed. The unique shape of the foliage makes these look great all through the growing season, but the main attraction is the many tall flower spikes in spring. They can have over 100 flower spikes on a mature plant — what a showstopper! As the flowers fall off, seed pods form and add interest through fall.
Baptisia is actually a native perennial plant for our region. They are commonly found in meadows that are left undisturbed. They thrive in our hot Kansas summers and can grow 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Tough as nails and disease resistant, they require very little maintenance. They're a great choice to support our local pollinators, who need native plants' pollen and nectar to survive. They are even deer resistant! Plant them in part-to-full sun for best flowering.
Decadence® Sparkling Sapphires Baptisia has bright violet-blue flowers that stand tall and vibrant over the foliage. The Sparkling Sapphires variety is a tad shorter than our other two varieties at 2.5 to 3 feet tall and wide, but it more than makes up for it with the stunning color of its blooms. While they look great alone, grouping 3 or more together gives an area an incredible look. Pair it with Lemon Meringue or Dark Chocolate to really increase the contrast and brightness of the colors between them.
